Upcycling Signs

Did you know that plastic corrugated signs cannot be recycled in regular municipal curbside or drop-off recycling collection? They have to be shipped off to a specialized recycling collection site, and most people end up just throwing them out in the trash because it’s too much work. Even if they do get recycled, new signs would need to be made for the next campaign, and shipping is involved in both the recycling and purchasing.

Reusing campaign signs is best practice because it conserves the resources needed to make new signs, and the cost savings can go directly to other campaign initiatives. We decided to reuse the signs, which required a little bit of finesse and upcycling creativity to change the dates and add “Re-elect”, but our team of dedicated volunteers made it happen to ensure our signs were as evergreen as possible.

At the end of the election period, we are going to collect the signs again, to either recycle or upcycle them once again.
